Grounds & Facilities

Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School (RPPS) is housed in four separate buildings located on a single site. There is a beautiful vicarage which was the original home for the school when it opened in 1991, and the site as a whole provides a comfortable, vibrant and homely environment for the children.

With the addition of the Gardener Building in 2011, the school increased its physical capacity and is consequently able to provide a wealth of new curriculum opportunities throughout the school. RPPS has specialist on-site facilities including a multi-purpose Auditorium, Library, Music Suite, Art Studio and Science Laboratory. Additional facilities include a gymnasium, ICT suite and a large outdoor playground space.

Library

Our school Library opens out on to the Playground and is a colourful and welcoming facility. It is well-stocked with nearly 9,000 books and is overseen by the Librarian, Mrs Griffiths. Reading for Pleasure is at the heart of the Library at RPPS, with children able to choose and borrow books during Library lessons, break and lunch time. Pupils can access the catalogue on their very own child-friendly interface, and are encouraged to search for books themselves, with guidance provided by the Librarian and Year 6 Library Prefects.

The Library is used by all children from Reception to Year 6. It boasts vibrant and informative displays, which celebrate our Theme Weeks, World Book Day, new books, and pupil’s work, whilst strongly supporting the RPPS curriculum. Check out our latest activities on Twitter @RPPS_Library.

Mrs Griffiths is the School Library Association’s 2022 Primary School Librarian of the Year. She is a columnist and reviews books for The School Librarian magazine and is a judge on the 2023 The Information Book Award. The Library was recently remarked upon by a well-respected retired ex-Headmaster of 4 West London schools as "truly a wonderful example of diversity and inclusion in practice". The Library is at the heart of all learning at RPPS.

RPPS is situated next to Ravenscourt Park which is one of the Borough’s flagship parks boasting twenty-acres and having won a Green Flag award. It provides the setting for the majority of PE and Games lessons including the use of the tennis and basketball courts.

The park is a social hub for parents and children who often walk through it on their way home. It offers many facilities including a walled garden, multiple play areas and a paddling pool for children. There is a real sense of community and we host many family events in the park, such as whole class picnics.

The children also love exploring the park and discovering nature. Outdoor learning is essential as it gives children first-hand experience of the world and a chance to become immersed in their environment. This is an opportunity that cannot be replicated in the classroom.
